Cedar. Its natural oils resist rot, fungus and wood-destroying insects, whereas pine is usually pressure-treated with chemicals to prevent decay. Cedar is also less prone to warping, shrinking and splintering. Backyard Discovery makes every Kids Play set we sell, and the wood is 100% cedar. Backyard Adventures makes the Family Play sets to the same standard.

Yes, in our view. Plastic sets fade and turn brittle with long exposure to UV light, and metal sets can rust and get very hot in summer sun. A solid cedar playground safely supports several children and adults, and it looks natural in a garden. Since 2007 we have not had a single set returned for rot or decay.

Kids Play sets, made by Backyard Discovery, are standard-height forts for children aged 2 to 12 in compact gardens. Family Play sets, made by Backyard Adventures, are built on a larger scale: heavier cedar framing, higher decks that carry adults and larger obstacles. They suit large gardens and are strong enough for hotels and campsites. Once our certified crew assembles one, it is certified to EN 1176, the standard those venues must meet. Each one is supplied to order, with freight quoted per project, so please contact us before ordering.

Two adults can do it. The manufacturer’s manuals give two people 7 to 10 hours for the smaller sets and 18 to 20 hours for the bigger ones, plus about 3 hours where a spiral tube slide is included. Parts come pre-cut, pre-drilled and numbered. Besides the paper manual, the BILT® app has the manufacturer’s instructions step by step in 3D, with voice guidance, and you can zoom in and rotate any connection on your phone or tablet. If you’d rather not, add our assembly to a Kids Play order at checkout. For Family Play, assembly by our certified crew is part of the quote.

No. Because cedar is naturally resistant to moisture and insects, it needs much less maintenance than other woods. Left alone it weathers to a silver grey and keeps resisting rot. If you prefer to keep the warm colour, apply a standard water-based sealant or stain each spring. Our warranty does not depend on you doing it. A quick look over the hardware once a month is all we ask.

Kids Play swing sets come with free EU delivery from our warehouse in Poland, usually within two weeks. They arrive as several large boxes on a pallet, at your kerb or gate. The driver won’t carry them to the back garden, so have a helper or trolley ready. You’ll get the delivery date before you pay. Family Play sets ship by freight and are quoted per project, which is why we ask you to contact us before placing that order.

Our promise that the set earns its place in your garden. If your kids aren’t outside more, tell us within 60 days of delivery and we’ll take it back: disassemble the set, pack it into the original boxes (keep them until you’re sure), and we arrange collection. A collection fee and a 15% restocking deduction apply, both stated before we book, and we refund the rest once the set is back with us. It covers every Kids Play swing set.
